We use professional tools and techniques to access your safe and will advise on repair or replacement of the lock mechanism after opening.
Safe Repair & Servicing
Safe lock mechanisms — both mechanical and electronic — require periodic servicing and can develop faults over time. Benson's Lock Service provides safe repair and servicing for a wide range of residential and commercial safes, addressing mechanical failures, worn components, dead batteries, and electronic lock malfunctions to restore full functionality and security.
Combination Changes
For dial combination safes, we provide combination change services to restore secure access management when existing combinations are no longer appropriate. This is particularly useful for businesses where management has changed or for any situation where you want to update the combination without replacing the entire lock.

Frequently Asked Questions — Safe Services
What type of safe do I need for my home?
The right safe for your home depends on what you are protecting and the level of security you require. For important documents and valuables, a fire-rated safe with a quality locking mechanism is a sound choice. For firearms, a purpose-built gun safe with proper locking and ideally a fire rating is recommended. For cash and small valuables, a compact high-security safe may be the most practical solution. Visit our store and we will walk you through the options and help you select the right product.
Can you open a safe if I have forgotten the combination?
In most cases, yes. Safe opening is a specialized service that requires professional tools and experience. We can open most residential and commercial safes where the combination has been lost or the lock has failed. We will ask for proof of ownership before proceeding, and we will advise on repair or combination reset options after the safe is opened.
What is the difference between a fire-rated safe and a regular safe?
A fire-rated safe is constructed with materials designed to protect its contents from heat damage during a fire for a specified period of time — typically 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours. A safe without a fire rating provides physical security against theft but offers no protection from fire. If protecting documents, cash, or irreplaceable items from fire is a priority, we recommend a fire-rated safe with at least a 1-hour rating.
